About Book

It started with a meeting. Quiet, unexpected. And then… everything began to shift. My Friend Greg isn’t a story you can explain in a sentence. It’s something you feel your way through. About the Author

JOAQUIM PROCOPIO

Joaquim Procopio de Araujo Filho is a Brazilian medical doctor, scientist, and lifelong seeker of deeper truths—both scientific and personal. He holds an MD and PhD from the University of São Paulo and completed his postdoctoral work at Cornell University Medical College in New York, specializing in membrane biophysics. Over the course of his career, he’s published more than 60 scientific papers across disciplines ranging from bioelectricity to diabetes and theoretical physiology. He’s also co-authored and edited several academic books, including Fisiologia Básica and Entendendo a Gordura. While his background is firmly rooted in science, My Friend Greg marks a turning point—an unusual foray into fiction, based on experiences that didn’t quite fit within the boundaries of research papers. Originally published in Portuguese, this English edition has been reworked extensively, yet holds true to the heart of the story. Joaquim writes not to impress, but to leave a trace—one that might resonate with readers who’ve also felt the edge of something unexplainable.

This book is for the curious ones. For readers who love Carl Sagan, but also wonder what he left out. For fans of science fiction tired of explosions, looking for quiet, psychological gravity. For those who’ve ever fallen for someone too smart, too distant, or just… too much. For skeptics and believers alike. For anyone who’s ever looked at the stars and whispered, “What if?”

Human beings have always celebrated intelligence. From the great thinkers of history to modern innovators, we admire those who can unravel mysteries, solve problems, and push the boundaries of what is possible. Intelligence is the power to understand,

For thousands of years, the night sky has been both a map and a mystery. Ancient civilizations used the stars to navigate oceans, track seasons, and mark the passage of time. Farmers planted by them, poets wrote odes

Throughout history, humans have been drawn to what we don’t fully understand. The first humans looked up at the night sky and wondered about the glittering lights scattered across the darkness. What were those glowing points? Gods? Fires
